Membership in the MBSA
There are a number of ways to get involved with the Manitoba Blind Sports Association, either as an athlete, a coach, or a volunteer.
Athletes
Swimming, Goalball, Rowing, Cross Country Skiing, Lawn Bowling and Golf are the main sports our athletes currently participate in. Athletes are classified by visual acuity under the guidelines set out by the International Blind Sports Federation. A number of sighted athletes currently participate alongside our visually impaired and blind athletes as well, which promotes an environment of understanding for both worlds.
Volunteers
Volunteerism is an essential part of our association. Volunteers generously give their time to assist athletes at the swimming pool, goalball court, golf course, and at fundraising events like the Swimathon and bingos. Volunteers also donate their time and energy to assist in other fundraising activities and to participate on the board of directors.
Coaching
All coaches participating with MBSA are required to have, at a minimum, a National Coaching Certification (NCCP) Level 1 certificate (or "Introduction to Competition A" under the new NCCP structure), which is offered by Coaching Manitoba.
